Art on the wall that curates itself
31 works on the device; a new picture appears within ten minutes of the request.
Figure: 31 Werke am Frame, dazu 3 bewegte 4K-Schleifen · measured 5 October 2026
Request: „Hang the Monet on the Frame.“
- Search museum archives for the work and fetch the high-resolution version.
- Crop to 4K, add a discreet signature, place it in the gallery folder.
- Upload via the TV's local interface — the folder is the gallery, the TV rotates on its own.
The TV in picture-frame mode showed the manufacturer's catalogue — for a subscription fee.
Taste: which work, which crop, what comes down again.
The count was 37, then 42, then 34 — the counting basis kept changing; since October only the file on the device counts.
“Folder = gallery” is configuration instead of operation: once the storage location is the control, no user interface is needed.
In the living room hangs a large TV that shows art when idle. “Hang the Monet on the Frame” is enough: the AI finds the work in museum archives, crops it to 4K, adds a discreet signature and drops it into a folder. The folder is the gallery, the TV rotates on its own; the picture appears within ten minutes of the request. There was no published experience anywhere for the device's local interface — it still took one evening from idea to running portfolio. Today 31 works hang there, and the manufacturer's subscription is cancelled.
